First Listen: Show Boy deliver their debut track ‘Young Gun’

If you have a chat to the many bands about the flourishing ‘South London Scene’, the overriding conversation is diversity in the group. Shared stages, shared friends, shared influence but the outcome is expressed across every genre. Show Boy join that dynamic. FKA Jovis and the Bedwetters, Jovis Lane’s band of blusher baring party starters have arrived with a debut track. Now under the more sensible moniker of Show Boy, ‘Young Gun’ provides the pop punk and Wham! fusion you never thought you needed. Live, they’ve been growing a reputation as one of the cities finest new bands and we encourage you to go and find out why. Check out their first offering below and find an interview below that.

Tell us about Show Boy, who you are and where you’re from?

The band started when we were at Goldsmiths Uni together, surrounded by a lot of ambient electronica. Unfortunately our laptops weren’t fast enough to keep up with the EDM, so we took all the abandoned genres that people secretly loved and churned them into glam-pop hits.

You’ve previously been playing around London as Jovis & The Bedwetters and built a great rep! Why the name change?

We started off purely as a good-time party band, and although the name Jovis & The Bedwetters will always be close to our hearts, we have grown into something else. We think Show Boy represents what we do a bit better now.

The live show is clearly special to you, is that your priority?

Playing live will always be important to us. But our top priority is actually safety; we always pre-rig the room with additional foam and cushions in case the dancing gets too raucous. That’s why we’ve recorded this song, so people can listen from the ultimate safe point: their own homes.

Today you’re putting out your first track, tell us about it?

Young Gun is about believing that you are young, despite increasing evidence to the contrary. It originated the moment I (Jovis, singer) looked down at my first ever tax return and panicked. I knew I had to go and write an angsty pop-punk song to make me feel young again.

Where can we find you playing next?

We’ll be playing our first ever headliner at the Shacklewell Arms on June 24th. That’ll be announced in the next couple of days, but there’ll probably be a few before then so keep an eye on our Facebook page for details…
