News: 10 Years of So Young Magazine Compilation

We’re celebrating 10 Years and 50 issues of So Young Magazine with a special vinyl only compilation.

We’re preparing to release our 50th issue in June 2024 and we’ll celebrate the milestone edition with a compilation featuring twelve bands that have featured heavily within our pages, on small London stages and now on limited red vinyl. So Young grew from a passion for punk fanzines and excitement for a cluster of emerging bands and since our first issue we’ve championed, featured and debuted some of the most exciting new artists from the UK and beyond via illustrated print interviews.

To celebrate 10 years and 50 issues, we reached out to some friends, old and new, to share a debut, demo or rarity for a compilation that spans the magazine’s history to date. Available exclusively on vinyl to mirror So Young’s focus on tangible products and real life events, ‘10 Years of So Young Magazine’ features music from Palma Violets, The Big Moon, Fontaines D.C., Shame, English Teacher, Wunderhorse, Childhood, Splashh, Been Stellar, Sports Team, Sorry and Goat Girl.

All Pre orders will come with a Limited Edition Zine.

Opening with Palma Violets debut single ‘Best of Friends’, it was this song that lit the initial fire of So Young. Stumbling upon the track being performed at Reading Festival and subsequently following the band’s every move, Issue One featured an interview with the band, as did three of the first six. Along with interview features,  So Young played regular host to those in its pages, presenting the likes of Childhood and The Big Moon (then known as The Moon) at London’s The Old Blue Last for Summer and Halloween parties respectively. Fontaines D.C.’s first print feature preceded a debut UK cover on the front of So Young. The band joined a bill including Squid and Sports Team at The Five Bells, New Cross to celebrate So Young’s 5th birthday. A demo of ‘Hurricane Laughter’ celebrates that night on this compilation. Gracing two covers and countless pages, Shame are probably the most featured band in the magazine’s history. The band played The Old Blue Last with HMLTD, The Orielles and Life to celebrate 2 years of So Young, and since then have teamed up for live events and festival stages across the UK.  ‘The Lick’ was where it all began and it’s the original demo that features on the compilation. English Teacher have recently shared their debut album, and featured on the cover of the magazine in December 2023. The magazine introduced the band ro readers in June 2021 and it’s our favourite single from that time, ‘Wallace’ that you’ll find on the compilation. So Young is proud to have built relationships with artists that go beyond the conversations read inside the magazine, and this collection of twelve vital bands, and treasured relationships feels like the perfect way to celebrate 10 years, and cheers to 10 more.

‘10 Years of So Young Magazine’ is available to pre order exclusively via Rough Trade Shops now along with an exclusive zine. Released on June 13th, there’ll be more celebrations to be announced along with a limited T-Shirt collaboration and Tote Bag with Rough Trade.
