Listen: Amyl and The Sniffers Return with New Single ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’

Melbourne-based punk rock band Amyl and The Sniffers are back with new track ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ – the band’s first release since their 2021 album ‘Comfort To Me’. The single alongside B-Side ‘Facts’ will be available on limited edition vinyl courtesy of Rough Trade Records on May 24th.

Blending together vocalist Amy Taylor’s ecstatic energy and quintessential tongue-in-cheek vocals, ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ raises an apt middle finger to misogyny in the music industry. The track stands assuredly as a protest against the music community’s watchful, critical eyes and the voices that indeed say ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’. Recorded with Nick Launay (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), the track truly packs a punch with the band’s all-too-familiar pining guitars and gritty hints of Detroit garage.

Speaking on the track, Amy Taylor stated: ‘“U Should Not Be Doing That” makes me laugh, but It’s also in a way poking fun at the shock that people still feel at a little bit of skimpy clothing, and the bitchy high school way that the music community still is (yes I’m talking to you random 40 year old metalheads sitting around a table doing lines and bitching about a 28 year old chick in a band for wearing shorts and “selling out”) but it mainly makes me laugh.”
