Listen: Been Stellar Return with New Single ‘Passing Judgment’ and Announce Debut Album

Been Stellar announce debut album ‘Scream From New York, NY’ and share new single ‘Passing Judgment’.

Carrying all the puffed-out-confidence of Fontaines D.C’s Skinty Fia –  Dan Carey, no less, takes on production duties here – ‘Passing Judgment’ is steady, assured and portentous. Written during their debut UK tour nearly two years ago, the track crunches down on a scissoring groove. Jangling guitars and swaggering drums flash off each other with all the grit and vitality of steel blades clattering in combat.

If 2022’s self-titled debut EP so gut-wrenchingly captured, in all it’s hyperdriven melodrama, the tumultuous growing pains of teenagedom, ‘Passing Judgement’ brings out New York five-piece closer to the weightier moralistic dilemmas of adulthood. That characteristically baleful vocal of Sam Slocum now preaches from fire-pits of hell rather than a tear-stained high-school locker. And the track’s chorus carries an almost biblical significance (“PASSING JUDGEMENT WITHOUT HOPE”)  casting an adamantine hook in your ear, and drowning you deliciously in all its scuzzed-up glory.
