Listen: Berlin Duo The Nightclubs Share New Single ‘Clairaudient’

Wearing their obsession for classic 00s electro on their sleeves (and with their haircuts) the second single from Berlin based duo The Nightclubs – the first one ‘Mirror Romance’ is sick too – arrives in a buzzsaw tsunami of chiptune synths and analogue gear.

Ethereal and magnetic and awesome, the spookily titled ‘Clairaudient’ – a term reserved for people who can ‘hear voices’ in their head – pixelates itself into existence from the beyond, achieving the smothering prettiness of shoegaze armed with nothing but drum machines, curated keyboard sounds and the appropriately aloof vocals of Sophie Soraya and Hermie Hemlock.

Citing a sultry array of influences like Ladytron, Crystal Castles and Miss Kitten (they’re spot on), The Nightclubs are diligent students of their craft, and more than mere copyists too. This is fiery, fresh and cool as hell. And, given the emerging fashion for electro duos in the past 12 months –  ear, The Femcels, Bassvictim, Fcukers – who would bet against The Nightclubs carving out their own culty, immersive corner of electro-pop glamour. 2009 just sent a poke on Facebook they want their bangers back.
