A new project formed by Forth Wanderers’ Ben Guterl and Victoryland collaborator Dan Howard, Billboard Style bottle up the heart-in-mouth rhapsody of infatuation on their rich, eponymous debut via Good English Records.
Serving as the first single from the duo’s debut album ‘Pull of the Moon’, due for release this October, ‘Billboard Style’ is a track fraught with all the tossing-and-turning, hot-cheeked, fizzy-stomach swooning of desire. Shades of maximal indie rock nostalgia spill across a tapestry of neon and gold, clanging dissonance interlaced with shimmering harmonic resolve in a way that mirrors the human complexities of love. All in all, it’s a tension-and-release rollercoaster that can often feel all-consuming, and this gorgeous, compelling debut from the Brooklyn duo is yet more evidence that NYC continues to be one of the most exciting spots for new music right now.
“This song is about desire and wanting someone so bad it’s like a little parasite that nestles in your brain and rewires your thoughts,” Ben explains. “It’s about how you always lose a part of yourself in pursuit of someone else and how you might not care because love is intoxicating and maybe that’s the shit life is all about.”
