C Turtle announce debut album ‘Expensive Thrills’ and share giddying lo-fi delight of ‘Shake It Down’ via Blitzcat Records.
It’s impossible not to feel inspired by the blessed, child-like joy exhibited by C Turtle in their every clumsy raucous breath. From grunged-up chords so loosely wired that you can see the crackle of the sparks bursting out from power sockets; to the instant earworm of the choral refrain, announcing the song to the world like a stream of heavenly light through sharply drawn curtains -”Shake it down! Shake it Down! Shake it off!”; to the absurdo deadpan imagery reeled off by vocalist Mimi McVeigh.
In one sense it’s all so totally instinctively, spontaneous, almost meaningless. Yet in another, more vital aspect, the sheer headiness of ‘Shake It Down’ charges itself with that most valuable and hard to muster attitude towards living – be loud, be silly; have fun and be free. Who wouldn’t want to be in C Turtle, playing this song, feeling such sheer and stupid pleasure as this?
