Listen: Cardiff Newcomers Casual Smart Share ‘It Doesn’t Get Any Easier’

Impossibly delicate, ‘It doesn’t get any easier’ is a desperately gorgeous moment of brittle innocence from Cardiff newcomers, Casual Smart. Coat it in double cream and it would melt; stroke it with silk and it would start bleeding.

Caked in a cuddling Moldy Peaches-like lo-fi folk veneer – and resembling the soundtrack to a 00’s American indie film (Michael Cera’s probably in it),  the absolute gentleness of it all, it’s nervously quiet production, just compounds the heart-crushing majesty. This is the sound of love’s discovery: all its weird highs at disorientating lows. 

Forming just last June, the chorus (and title) of their debut track came after having dinner with Tapir! after sŵn Festival last October: “We had our first gig the week after and when we asked them for advice, they told us “It doesn’t get any easier”…
