Chicago’s ira glass have released the turbulent lead single for their upcoming EP, ‘joy is no knocking nation’. ‘fd&c red 40’ is a disjointed, experimental track blending elements of punk, shoegaze, screamo and spoken word to create a sound unheard of.
Bass, guitar and vocals mesh together as one in the most explosive parts of ‘fd&c red 40’, frustrated shouts are hidden beneath whirring and intricate guitar lines and forceful drums. As the song settles into a spoken word bridge, the standout saxophone sound played by Jill Roth can be heard playing a raw melody before the single has one last crash of elements.
‘joy is no knocking nation’ will be the second EP from ira glass, due for release in mid-November this year. The band have found their niche within the hardcore scene, setting themselves apart with their future releases definitely ones to look out for.
