Listen: Cork’s Cardinals Share New Single ‘Get It’

Cork band Cardinals return with the single ‘Get It’, continuing with their sound, which appears to be found evermore with each release. Cardinals sound is melodic, exciting and personalised with their hearts.

Frontman Euan Manning wrote ‘Get It’ whilst reflecting on love, the positives and negatives whilst maintaining that love is “an overwhelmingly positive force”. ‘Get It’ although immediately a Cardinals tracks is certainly a change of pace; the rhythm and personality remains; the joyous guitar riffs are still present, but it signals at the direction which Cardinals will be taking as they look to the future. A future you can experience as they embark on tour.

The single echoes of a return, the trying and the temptations, the vulnerability and openness of love. Love that forces reconciliation, the constant attempts to place romance and the connections it births. Nostalgia can be situated in the inability to imagine a future, a forlorn remaining in memory that removes experiences to occur as only the past is conceivable. Cardinals however have been able to sonically create a nostalgic noise which appreciates moving onwards, one where love can be remembered, adored for loves own sake, and the early romances which create our very beings. As Badiou claims, love is an existential project, the radical event which makes it possible to experience that world as greater than our own selves; to experience life as more than just through the one, or ‘I’ which modernity’s obsession with individualism has created. In this vein, Cardinals have created a song in the tradition of love, of experience which is entwined with the heart of another. Another we know, with almost greater clarity than we know ourselves, remembering “never forget the power of the heart.”

Cardinals join Been Stellar on a tour of the UK and Ireland in November and head to NYC in December for debut shows.
