Listen: Dog Share Their Latest Single ‘Daddy Got Pony’

Focusing a Fat Whites-ish brain-crawling unease, Dog’s latest vignette chronicles a certain ‘Daddy’, whose ‘baby’ rejects his gift of  ‘pony.’  For sure, it’s simple enough as songplots go, but ‘Daddy…’ is  generously slaked with a mystifying, oozing sliminess. The track wriggles those fried nerve-ends with sleight of suspense, dramatic composure, and thunderous hi-hat damnation. It all compounds to ramify any matrices of interpretation.

This second single from the South East londoners, is beginning to cement their reputation as deconstructive musical raconteurs. Here are nifty arrangers whose will is bent to wang you full-steam through their absurdo mindfuck portals. The density of sonic easter-eggs woven throughout like thin threads of gold – the coconut clacking, the askew guitar churn, the xylophone tickle – infuses the band’s sound art passions with a trademark comic flair.  Like laboratory madcaps encircled by phials upon phials of gauchely coloured fluids, Dog mix and mangle chemicals with sardonic experimentalism. The results shrink or explode  in accordance with some chaotically- inspired oblique calibrations, begotten by some a voyaging irreverence towards the plain or predictable.
