English Teacher Share Speedy Wunderground Single ‘Song About Love’

Preceding their forthcoming Independent Venue Week UK tour and their first venture out to SXSW this March, English Teacher have just released their latest single borne of a collaboration with none other than Speedy Wunderground’s Dan Carey. With bandleader, Lily Fontaine, hailing that the end result “couldn’t have happened in another space, with another producer or on another day”, ‘Song About Love’ is the perfect storm of influence from both ends and brings about something new for the quartet – whilst still maintaining their signature characteristics.

Similar to their spoken word venture, ‘Yorkshire Tapas’, English Teacher tap into the nuances of intimacy and desire in the ordinary day-to-day: “Instead of you, I do the washing up […] I hoover the rug […] I unblock the plug”. At the heart of its relatability is the normalcy of it all. ‘Song About Love’ is dynamic and flaunts their range–minimal where effective and busy where necessary–the single ambles in soft vocals and a slow bassline before slipping into the final stretch. Pulling in elements of psychedelia, the closer is an immersive soundscape of the repeated call, “love”, in an itching and literal manifestation of the ever presence of love in music.
