Listen: Folly Group share debut ‘Butt No Rifle’

Folly Group aren’t your everyday four-piece band. Seamless and collaborative as if a meticulous sentient being, the project embodies all of the group’s desires and conveys it through divergent, edge of your seat musicianship – a bold and uncompromising feast of ragged rhythms and increasingly intensifying changes in direction.

Led by drummer and singer Sean Harper, the group have impressively coerced their animated and intrinsic live set into their recorded output – the introduction of ‘Butt No Rifle’ immediate evidence of their intoxicating balance of playful experimentalism and direct infectiousness.

A stark and distressed vision of losing the sentiment of your younger-self as the overwhelming passing of time ticks further on – Harper yelps and ticks with a keen sense of despair and understanding – the track thriving through his encompassing performance but escalated by the exacerbated narratives. It suits the atmosphere of the track all too well – the band leaping from one phrase to the next with startling conviction and assuredness.

An impressive inception from an immediately engrossing project.
