Folly Group are back! Now two EPs down, the quartet have kick-started their next instalment with their newest single ‘Strange Neighbour’.
In their first release of 2023, and only a month away from a support tour with New York’s Geese, ‘Strange Neighbour’ is just as bizarre as you would expect. Unserious, but seriously catchy, Sean Harper’s vocal drones over its rises and falls. As always, the track boasts an irregular and dynamic rhythm section, heightened by the ceaseless percussive powers of Kai Akinde-Hummel.
‘Strange Neighbour’ is accompanied by a surreal video from the minds of CLUMP Collective, which was shot in The Social just off Oxford Circus. Of the video, CLUMP added – “We wanted to make something fast paced and a bit silly”, sharing that “everyone on set react[ed] with a mix of repulsion and amusement – a tone we’d love to hit with this video”.
Leaning more toward the sound they introduced with their first EP, ‘Awake and Hungry’, back in 2021, ‘Strange Neighbour’ is a rumbling addition to Folly Group’s growing world. Reportedly the first offering from a series of fruitful recording sessions earlier this year, we’re sure to be met with more lovable absurdity from Folly Group in the near future.
