Listen: HighSchool Return with New Single ‘August 19’

‘August 19′, the new single from HighSchool, emulates the romance-infused nostalgia found on a late summer night.

The Melbourne Lo-Fi Duo’s new single is their first since signing to PIAS in November and it’s a dreamy demonstration of what HighSchool can be. The track comes after a summer of festivals including All Points East and End Of The Road, and a string of dates supporting CHVRCHES and NewDad. The single also comes with a self-directed and produced music video with cinematography courtesy of Gabriel Monteregge.

The lyrics depict a reflection on a teen romance and the importance it held at the time; the epitome of limerence and perfect for late-night drives. The track is a deep cut at its core as HighSchool explore the hindsight you gain looking back to your Sweet 16 high school love. The song is emotionally intensified by crackly production, a chorus-infused ear worm guitar and octave-layered vocals courtesy of Sunken’s Poppy Billingham to heighten the texture.

Commenting on the new track, lead singer Rory Trobbiani says, “’August 19’ was the last track we wrote for the EP and will be the first to be released. It came together so quickly and naturally, we felt it was best not to mess with it and overwork it. The title was the date we wrote it. It was saved as a voice memo on my phone and the title never changed.”
