As wildly esoteric as they are melodically affluent, Holiday Ghosts have stalked stages up and down the UK over the last couple years, ringing the bell for a heady balance of straight up rock n roll and knee-jerk new wave that shines with timeless idiosyncrasy.
The group now return with their second record, possessing a title so beguiling as if it’s something cut straight from a beat poet’s corner in ‘West Bay Playroom’. ‘Slipstream’ – the lead single from their aforementioned sophomore effort – could be the most succinct embodiment of their sound yet. It’s always been their forte to blend melodically rich rhythms and pleasingly boisterous vocals that unite sweetly in harmony, yet the way in which the guitars weave sharply and Charlie Fairbairn incongruously gurgles with either extreme of the scale delivers an added sense of vigour to their humble charm.
Crisply and poetically encapsulating modern day mundanity within the romanticised story of a want away partner dreaming of what could’ve been, Holiday Ghosts’ eagerness to not take themselves too seriously rewards us with a lackadaisical yet intelligent escape from the deluge.
