Listen: Hotel Lux Announce Debut Album and Share ‘Common Sense’

Riddle me this – when was the last time you actually fact checked wide-spread ‘truths’ beyond the walls of Wikipedia? With news stories that we want to hear seeping their way into the cookies of our social media footprint, it’s hard to keep a grip on the gospel truth. Shining a light on our passive shortcomings, London via Portsmouth sextet, Hotel Lux return with their pub-rock exploit of ‘Common Sense’.

Rejuvenated in the wake of a two-year slumber, jangle-pop grooves flourish from the get-go. With the same explicit frankness of former years, you can always rely on pithy frontman Lewis Duffin to tell it like it is. Matching an earnest wit with the track’s strutting melody, the band appear bolder than ever on this latest ear worm. If rallying trade unionists were to pick up guitars, Casio keyboards and start bopping, it would sound a lot like this.

Commenting on the single, the band explain: “‘Common Sense’ is about how the media are aware that apathy is the greatest enemy of social shift, how we are being taken for fools and we’ve become numb to it.” It’s easier said than done, but perhaps this is the bucket of cold water needed to jolt our brains back into action.

A morsel of what’s to come, ‘Common Sense’ is a taster of Hotel Lux’s debut album, ‘Hands Across The Creek’. Set for release at the dawn of next year, saddle up for a season of pint-fuelled touring and interrogating new material.

‘Hands Across The Creek’ will be released on 27th January 2023 via The state51 Conspiracy. Pre order here.
