Issue Sixty-Three of So Young arrives in the middle of Festival season and off the back of a serious heatwave. Following the drop of their 11 minute and 9 seconds long second album ‘Magazine’ and ahead of a short return to the UK in August and September, New York’s YHWH Nailgun make their third appearance in the magazine- and this time on the cover. Speaking from New York, YHWH Nailgun explore the diversity of sounds within their music, the retroactive recognition of their influences and the angry responses to the duration of ‘Magazine’.

London’s Man/Woman/Chainsaw have released their much awaited debut album ‘Cannonball’. Now signed to Fiction Records, we give the band a call in the lead up to the release of the record to discuss their growth, celebrating their 200th gig and the prospect of album two. Heading south to Brighton via Sweden, Nina Winder-Lind is most recognisable for her role in ‘Hagstone rock’ band, The New Eves. ‘Wild Love’ will mark Winder-Lind’s solo debut and ahead of it’s release we reach out to chat about the stages of development these songs took, their relationship with Sweden and the impact of Brighton on Nina as a musician.

We recently fell for the debut EP from Edinburgh’s Paulie Swan. After a few moves around Scotland, Paulie Swan settled and attracted attention with debut offering ‘Me Vs. Mothra’. With his EP ‘Swans Today’ out in the world, we got to know him a little better. A considerable shift in decibels leads us to Dublin’s Gurriers. Ahead of a headline slot at our All-Dayer in Southampton, we popped to the pub for a conversation around their upcoming new album ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’ and how this one is more personal. Staying in Dublin, this time via a Zoom call, Basht. are on the home straight towards their long awaited debut album. ‘Poor Advice’ drops in October and we speak for the first time about writing on the road, unity in the scene and the shift away from ‘relationships’ as a subject.

This Is Lorelei, the solo moniker of Nate Amos (also of Water From Your Eyes), has a new album coming titled ‘The Singer In My Band’. In an interview which spans family collaboration, the influence of bluegrass and confidence, we dig into the record. In LA, a new four-piece called Ballet have been dropping EP’s and playing shows in the Hollywood hills. With the likes of Suicide and The Velvet Underground very much on their sleeves, Ballet nod to a rock n roll period of the past. Feeling fresh and excited to deliver their brand of ‘Reverse British Invasion’ we chat inside. Finishing an extended trip to the US, new signings to 4AD, @, are preparing their second album ‘Autosmile’. We discuss that album, DIY scenes and the ‘folk’ tag.

This issue’s music features are completed by a warm conversation with Melbourne’s, Way Dynamic and an email exchange with ‘mysterious’ duo The Healing Power of Horses. And of course, Who Are You? Introduces a handful of even newer names we’re excited by. This time we ask the basics to Bramwell, Good Flying Birds, Wyatt, Lara, Black Nylon, Fatale, Heathers and Long Distance Runner.
