Since the release of their debut album ‘Wednesday’ back in 2018, Dundalk’s, Just Mustard have turned Shoegaze into a timeless obsession; conquering every atmospheric-disintegration they’ve engaged with thus far. Now three years later, the notorious quintet share ‘I Am You’- the first single off of their forthcoming sophomore album, set for release next year via Partisan Records.
Perhaps the groups most dilatant offering to date, ‘I Am You’ is a spectacularly progressive body of work. Ascending into fear with cautionary urgency- like watching a 35mm reel of the ice-caps melting in reverse, ‘I Am You’ is more than a singular feat of destruction, or breath of lucidity in a cavern of smoggy substance- it’s an entire exhaustion of its own transcendent creation; and a brilliant one at that.
Mountainous, provocative and terrifyingly absorbing, in under four minutes Just Mustard have achieved what few living souls have mustered; and that’s invite us into the deepest depths of abstract annihilation, as the sunlight trickles cautiously on the tides above, and all things natural are invited to uproot their core, and take a walk towards the untameable side.
A chance encounter with something other- a trip fuelled by echoes of self, legacy, and all the subliminal spaces in-between, ‘I Am You’, much like the devoted mystique of spiritual zeitgeists bygone, is an absolute must, experience.
