The second single from left-field electronic pop duo TURNSPIT continues a prolific run of wispy, chromed trip-hopping tantalisers that started with their debut last summer. Sounding like the music you’d hear upon arriving to the hippest, most exclusive soiree in town – where it feels like everyone is hotter and dressed better than you – ‘DO I KNOW YOU?’ floats with precision and grace, pristine melodies dotted around a mazey, absorbing backbeat.
Another part of a growing new wave of electronic-orientated bands from Leeds – they’re opening for bathing suits and Adult DVD in the coming months – TURNSPIT’s world-building is as immersive as their music. Painted in an aloof, silvery, greyscale aesthetic on their artwork – looking living statues on the South Bank – their live shows are equally as curated and intentional: both performers stand facing each other (never the audience) with a near-uncomfortable stillness, as the glittering beats flitter and rally around them.
Landing somewhere between an art exhibition and a synth-pop band, they fittingly host a headline show at Picturehouse cinema in Finsbury Park, London in June. Make mine a large sweet and salty popcorn please.
