Silver Gore, the new musical partnership between artists Ava Gore and Ethan P. Flynn, has finally landed with their debut single ‘Dogs in Heaven’. Despite traces of a previous release lingering online, the track marks their first official outing, teaming the storytelling sensibilities of folk music with the sharp elbows of alternative pop.
Inspired by the dual terror and whimsy of 80s classic ‘All Dogs Go To Heaven’, the song takes in disco inflections and retro glamour, skipping between genres with the bold, carefree manner of a skinny-dipper stripping off their clothing before diving into cool water. From the twang of the bass to the tripping beat that shuffles and flounces throughout, the single shimmers and glows as it twists in your hands throughout its two- minute runtime. It opens like a concertina, stretching out and revealing its layers in a wry, kaleidoscopic way until Ava Gore’s vocals take centre stage. She’s irrepressible amid the instrumental howls of phantom hounds, her range reaching skywards whilst the bass rumbles beneath.
As short and sweet as a mini dress, it’s a song that promises great things from the duo – and with upcoming appearances at Green Man and End of the Road, it won’t be long till the music gets road tested.
