Listen: London Newbies Dorothy Share Debut Single ’50s Song’ via Angel Tapes

Featuring Jude Woodhead (Saint Jude),  Francesca Brierley (heka) plus new-project crazy Marco Pini (Sorry, RIP Magic, GG Skips, Slow Dance), newly emerged London trio Dorothy have signed to Angel Tape’ – the lower-fi sibling to the esteemed Fire Talk – also announcing their debut EP ‘Sea Songs’ – due 12th December.

Kicking off our introduction to the Dorothy multi-verse is debut single ‘50s Song’. A wonky, swooning and eccentric waltz of lo-fi hypnagogic pop, the track elicits a doo-wop revisionism, a warped reload of reimagined past. Resembling the retrospectives of Sharp Pins, but if they were received on a flimsy antenna from a remote north sea island and recreated with frail analogue technologies, ‘50s Song’ offers up the kind of heated-blanket cosiness that lands just in time for the encroaching autumnal nights. Its parent EP will surely be a salve for midwinter blues too.
