Listen: London’s ashnymph Share Debut Single ‘Saltspreader’ via Blitzcat Records

Winding out of the blocks with a momentous, thudding pulse that rumbles with all the anticipation of a boxer about to swagger into the ring and slug it out, the debut single from fresh-out-of-the-packet London trio ashnymph (they’ve only been gigging for about 6 months) feels etched in pixels and patched by scart leads.

Powered by a riff that’s The Stooges’ ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’, but if it was wearing Daft Punk helmets, ‘Saltspreader’ recalls the neat indie/electro of Teleman and the boosted rock of Does It Offend,You? Yeah, and, by the band’s Will Wiffen’s own admission, is a remembrance of the first time listening to MGMT as a child and being swept up by their magic.

Releasing via independent label Blitzcat Records – whose recent releases include C Turtle and Flip Top Head – ashnymph are a band loaded with playful fuzz and comic-book delight; intense, focused, but always welcoming. It’s easy to imagine Scott Pilgrim batting off Ramona Flowers’ Ex-partners to this, or to imagine Sonic the Hedgehog breaking the speed limit on the M1 to this; Mario eating those weird mushrooms…
