London’s RIP Magic have today released live favourite ‘5words’ via New York’s DFA Records and announced their debut UK headline tour alongside a run supporting Fcukers in the US.
After being branded “London’s buzziest buzz band”, a spotlight was shone upon RIP Magic, a spotlight which seemed to only help them move more intentionally and confidently. In the time since, the band released their debut double-single, ‘Loot / Dox’, and have wracked up a list of support slots and lineup peers that take the wind out of you – LCD Soundsystem, Panda Bear, Fakemink, Fcukers, Lolina, Chanel Beads and more.
The momentum gathered by the above has come to a head today with their newest single, ‘5words’. The mingling of twisted synths, motorik drums, an unpredictable bassline and a recurrent hook makes for a cacophony of industrial pop. Although ‘5words’ maintains the heavy, almost menacing tone introduced by their debut, the track also taps into the joy central to dance music, culminating in a euphoric outro. ‘5words’ was produced by LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, marking his first production for another band in over a decade, and ultimately bestowing the stamp of approval from a figurehead of 00s dance-punk.
