London’s Sorry Share ‘Today Might Be The Hit’ from Upcoming New Album ‘COSPLAY’.
The world naturally tends toward entropy. A particle spins too fast, slips from its orbit casting waves of disruption. The ripple of its motion spreads, scattering energy, stirring chaos, through the edges of everything it touches. With ‘Today Might Be The Hit’, a deliciously ambivalent shard of art-pop, London’s Sorry ride these ripples, tugging at a glittering tangle of possibility, chasing a breathless wager lodged inside a volatile coil, as systems collapse into ruckus.
Asha Lorenz’s vocals hold a deadpan optimism that carries an ache of impermanence. “Today might be the hit, / Today might turn to dust,” Sorry swing between both poles, grunting through frustration before tumbling into childlike, carefree la’s. Tiny flashes of innocence flickering against bouncing momentum, propelled by a persistent snare. Clean guitars shimmer over controlled bursts of feedback and overdrive, cresting into skirl-like screams and tintinnabular chimes that ring like cut glass.
Out of the singles from new album ‘COSPLAY’, ‘Today Might Be The Hit’ clings closest to Sorry’s earlier work. Nothing sits still for too long, constantly rushing around. The London five-piece revel in stitching their songs like collages, splicing layers and sampling quirky extracts that function as little windows into their world.
Where other bands might aim for pristine equilibrium, Sorry prefer the wobble, that fragile balance they test and tip again and again. ‘Today Might Be The Hit’ is a short and stubborn experiment that insists on being replayed. With each listen, it rearranges its particles, embracing messy microcollisions that cohere only for a breath. In other words, it carries a beauty that arises from the randomness of things falling apart.
