Manchester duo Nightbus channel inner noughties for new single ‘Ascension’ and announce debut album ‘Passenger’.
Deriving from Manchester, duo Nightbus have released a new single- blanketing heavy and challenging themes over a noughties, nightclub soundtrack. The lead single to their debut album entitled ‘Passenger’, Nightbus close the gap between what they determine as real and fake, what is fiction and what is not with a psychedelic yet potent use of bass drums blending into mesmerising vocals. Using heavy distortion and an ambient undertone, the duo use this blurred line to represent their turmoils within life, with the seeping and weeping vocals showing an energetic and danceable theme on the outside, masking and covering the pain in which the ballad reaps.
Accompanied with a zany, acid trip of a music video, the duo truly push this idea of bending what we determine as reality. Using a grainy and blurred perspective to slowly and gradually cross the line from what we see as real life, to what turns to be a drug fuelled, acid trip of what life can spiral out to be- a state of mind fuelled by uncontrollable addiction. As we progress through the video, we see our protagonists practically disappear- they are consumed by this trip, by the euphoric highs that this song originally appears to be about- yet at its core, ‘Ascension’ truly and perfectly encapsulates the addiction and longing for a fix in our lives, with the song truly about trying to overcome what drags us away from society, making us passengers within our own vessels.
Nightbus’ new single ‘Ascension’ is out, with their debut album ‘Passenger’ out via Melodic on October 10th.
