Manchester’s Crimewave share ‘White Label’ and announces debut album ‘Scenes’ – due 7th November via Fool’s Gold.
The project of Manchester based producer Jake Wilkinson, Crimewave’s latest single ‘White Label’ delivers a fleeting, moreish and addictive slice of after-hours seediness, resembling the IDM-tinged wilds of Kassie Krut, but drenched in an HONESTY-esque urban griminess.
Despite its whole aesthetic being rooted in the idioms and imagery of club culture – upcoming album ‘Scenes’ is designed as a continuous DJ set rather than a collection of discrete songs – there are no keyboards or synths here; just manipulated, ‘fucked-with’ guitars purring and buzzing; maltreated and malcontent.
Having already opened for Kim Gordon, and releasing via esteemed New York label Fool’s Gold, Crimewave are also forming part of a healthy new vanguard of UK electronic acts steeped indie sensibilities – Jake specifically lists Another Country $$$$, Silverwingkiller, and Buffee as allies in this regard.
