Infused with whimsicalness right to their core, Manchester quintet, Truthpaste take us through all the stops of their sonics in their first release with Dirty Hit & Memorials of Distinction, ‘Bus Song’.
Having won us over with the eclectic yet catchy debut ‘See You Around’ while grounding their folky-ness on ‘Bleary Eyes’, Truthpaste’s third single brings an emo side to their already open-ranged sound. Armed with their signature drum machine and overlapping vocals, ‘Bus Song’ drives through with minor sequences in the saxophone ripping over the guitars and wavey synths which drone between each other- further establishing the bands mysterious atmosphere.
Despite the sorrower feel on ‘Bus Song’ compared to their first releases, one thing that remains present is the band’s fantastically sweet lyricism with a hook bent on communicating with your partner to meet in the middle, much like a bus driving from stop to stop. ‘Bus Song’ is truly THE song for a long thought whilst staring out the (likely clouded) window of a bus.
On the track, Esme of the band says “Bus song is our emo rock song. It’s another side to Truthpaste that its time people heard outside our live set. We don’t stick to one thing, if it sounds good we’ll do it.” Euan continues, “This song was knocking around my head for a couple of weeks, it wasn’t until we got together as a band and decided to make it a duet that it really started to feel like it has come to be”.
