Returning with news of their debut album ‘Umbrella’ – due for release on the 25th September via NY indie Take Care Records – Starcleaner Reunion take on the avant-pop retrofuturism of Stereolab on new single ‘Never Odd or Even’.
Building on the dreamy, strung-out ‘euro pop’ textures of their gorgeous 2024 EP ‘Cafe Life’, here the New York group plunge deeper into a blushing art-pop psychedelia that sweeps you off your feet and straight into a daydream. Clustered guitar chords ooze sweet, tangy harmonic juice over a fibrous pith of krauty motorik grooves and 5/4 interludes, finished with vocalist Jo Roman’s entrancing Laetitia Sadier-isms that hover two feet above with weightless cool and enchantment.
Like painterly dawn warmth descending over crunchy frost, it feels like ‘Never Odd or Even’ embodies that ephemeral stasis between two extremes – the tightknit romance between friction and release that draws goosebumps to the surface, cool to the touch but glowing with life within. More please.
