There are apologies and grooves galore in The Magic Gang’s new offering. Living up to their name, the Brighton lot have well-and-truly proved their credentials as a gang by sharing a house as well as the stage. And evidence of their magic powers is once again laid out for all to see with ‘All This Way’.
At the start of the year, the band’s ability to conjure up euphoric, contagious choruses was showcased on their debut, ‘EP’; seven months later and with a new EP and a headline Scala show in sight, the effects are just as spellbinding. You could be forgiven for being lulled into a false sense of joy with the sunny melodies and sing-a-long hooks. However, that’s just part of the wizardry. “You know I’m sorry for this state we’re in” sings frontman Jack Kaye, before declaring: “I’m sorry that we fell in love”. It’s clearly not all fun and games.
As fans grapple with a goodbye from The Maccabees, The Magic Gang – one of Felix White’s top tips – are standing strong alongside the likes of Spring King and The Big Moon in a new generation of UK bands who are wielding guitars and winning hearts.
We spoke to Paeris of the band about ‘All This Way’ and what the band were trying to achieve with the new EP…
“All This Way was our attempt at Miley Cyrus’ Party In The USA, although I don’t think anyone will hit those heady heights again. We kind of feel that with each release where getting a lot closer to where we want to be musically, there’s a couple of tracks we’ve been playing live for a while that we’re excited to have out”
