Cardiff’s Panic Shack have announced their debut EP: ‘Baby Shack’; released on April 8th, via Brace Yourself Records.
‘Mannequin Man’, was written in the wake of a brief encounter with a man who works as a “literal, real-life mannequin”. With an origin story as obscure as this, the song inevitably packs enormous character and personality. It comes as a punch of punk energy with the added bonus of a catchy hook. The quintet has also given us a spectacle of a video to complement the single, which stars a green screen, and was filmed by their friend Ren Faulkner within an hour.
Alongside a protruding bassline, Panic Shack occasionally channel the demeanour of performers like Kathleen Hanna; delivering something akin to rage, in a three-minute refreshing bundle. With a sound they describe as “raw, honest and always chaotic”, this release primarily prioritises fun. It is a dance track in the best way and is bound to spark an electric reception at live shows.
