Listen: Spanish Horses Share New Single ‘Some People’ and Announce Debut EP

Determined not to let the summer fade into memory, Spanish Horses have dragged the waning sun with them into September with new single ‘Some People’, the second offering from their debut EP ‘Small Notions’ which releases on November 27th.

The ex-Paris group have found a new home in London, establishing themselves as one of the poster-boys of the new generation of artists emerging from the Windmill Brixton.‘Some People’ follows up their last single ‘Hey Man (Hey Man!)’, doubling down on its bushy-tailed optimism while pushing the keys forward for a more whimsical feeling hook.

A low droning synth punctuates the track, bolstering its hazy feel throughout and imbuing it with a thick sentimental texture. Their giddy electronica is pinned down by a breathy, flippant vocal style, an anchor that keeps the track from being too sickly sweet. Casting the character of neo-psychedelica into the structural mould of a 2010s indie track, the band employ their influences to give the song a rich but unplaceable sense of nostalgia.

They play off catchy riffs with an ease somewhere on the line of simplicity and brutal efficiency, wrapping the track together with the self-assured tightness of a more mature band. But simplicity and maturity need not be opposites, they say. Across the track’s 4 minute runtime, frontman Tom Onezine recounts the many many people that live in the world, the various ways of living, saying something to celebrate all the ridiculous ways we go about getting our business done. The result is a vibrant, sun bleached track that begs you to give in to its infectious joyfulness.

Upon the release of ‘Small Notions’ the band will play shows in London, Birmingham, and Oxford, with festival appearances booked in Glasgow, Cardiff, and Rotterdam.
