Vancouver’s Concrete Vehicles share new single ‘Cut Ties’.
Formerly known as Computer, before renaming themselves after a track from last year’s ‘absolutely-you-should-check-it-out’ debut album ‘Station On A Hill’ (great tune it is too), Vancouver quintet Concrete Vehicles are steadily emerging as a fine new voice in the jagged scraplands of post-punk abrasion.
Landing ahead of a healthy run of UK dates that kicks off at All Points East next week, single ‘Cut Ties’, for those new to the project, is a corrosive and thermite-hot introduction. Their heaviest tune to date, led by keening saxophones, hardcore vocal yelps, dynamite riffs and hearty cascades of fantastically evil noise, ‘Cut Ties’ marries the freak-outs of Maruja with the spiky precisions of Protomartyr and summons a whole load of flames in the process, the kind that could prompt nationwide government alerts. They say they’re pursuing music that’s “immediate, physical, and visceral”, and that is wholly accurate and a little bit frightening.
