With their savage blend of grunge and seventies rock n roll, North London Four Piece, Crows, make dark, demented tunes that are both heavy and haunting. Originally a live track, their new release ‘Silver Tongues’ is smeared with all sorts of deafening distortion and thudding baselines, that have already caused all manner of mosh pits to erupt up and down the country. It is fitting then that the video should feature a gig at Brighton’s, The Green Door Store, where sweaty bodies are shown to be gyrating wildly against the grainy black and white footage. Singer, James Cox’s ghoulish lyrics sneer at the ‘silver tongue’ deception of liars and manipulators which are embodied by creepy yet reverent images that careen across the screen. In a similar vein to punk-shock lads, The Birthday Party, Crows, use their broody guitar lines and horror movie lyrics to force their listener to confront the ugly side of human nature. This is dark rock n roll with a strong, literary voice.
If you are partial to some beefy riffs make sure to catch them on their upcoming tour, starting at Edge in Luton on Saturday 26th May. ‘Silver tongues’ is a guaranteed opener, so get ready to feel the floor vibrating beneath you.
We are told that Crows are also being legendary by offering a free download of the track with each of their new T-Shirts. You can find them here and a sneak peek of the design below.
