Listen: York Duo Troutflies Share New Single ‘1000 Years In Fairylights’

York duo, Troutflies return with another slice of their DIY outsider pop on new single ‘1000 Years In Fairylights’.

Having been recorded in a London flat, ‘1000 Years In Fairylights’ captures the duo in a state of misremembering and nostalgia, and as the name suggests, surrounded by a few strings of LED’s. Continuing their take on lo-fi psychedelia, ‘1000 Years In Fairylights’ is a dream-like walk through a bedroom, one that stretches on endlessly, and morphs into a rumination on the passing of time and the unreliability of memory. ‘Fairylights’ also continues the band’s penchant for the surreal and the charming with repetitive guitar chords guiding xylophones and melodicas. It all evokes the dwindling light and the lingering aftermath of childhood, wrapped up in a recollection of adult life.

Trouflies are set to release new record, ‘Wild Troutflies’, next month via Leeds’ Private Regcords. ‘1000 Years In Fairylights’ is a taste of what’s to come and perhaps suggests a more accessible Troutflies, although the pair are still firmly looking in from the outside – from the comfort of their bedroom window.
